For as long as I can remember, plus size women had problems finding clothing options. I remember when I was younger, I wanted to find great clothes that would fit me. As a teeneager, I wanted to fit in, to have clothes that represent who I was just like my friends did. They had options to be Goths, Hippies, Emos (yep, that’s my generation) or whatever. For the fashion industry, I was supposed to be grateful to just have clothes that fits. But when you only have 2 stores that carries plus sizes, tell me which 15 years old would be glad to wear the same shirts than her mom’s?
Fortunately, evolution in technology made it easier to find stylish and trendy clothes to wear now. And with the evergrowing online shopping, there are no boundaries to find exactly what you’re looking for.
The only thing I thought was missing for us, plus size ladies, was designer clothing. Well brace yourself my friends, because that time has arrived!
February 2019, New York Fashion Week. A brand called 11 Honoré was on the runway with a magnificent collection including pieces by Christian Siriano, Brandon Maxwell, and Prabal Gurung! During Fashion Week, this is the usual, but when 11 Honoré has miss Laverne Cox closing the show in a red Christian Siriano gown, followed by gorgeous plus size models in a row wearing luxury brands, it’s a statement!
We all heard about how “great” fashion designers refuse to work on plus size Gala dresses in fear that the plus size women’s image will cheapen their brand. Well I’m glad that some designers think otherwise, and are willing to create dresses, pants, jackets, skirts and coats that suits us wonderfully.
Did you know that recently, Diane Von Furstenburgh (DVF) decided to exprend her sizes to fit fullfigured women? Her famous wrap dress is available up until size 24 and is exclusively sold at 11 Honoré!
Also, I was surprised to see that Dolce & Gabbana also have signature pieces with 11 Honoré, but don’t be surprised: their items goes up to a size 18..
What I really like about 11 Honoré, is that their website is amazing. Each item has a FIT + STYLING description, and I really appreciate that. By looking at a dress, you will know if it’s true to size or if it runs small and you will need to size up or down. Also, their stylists wrote a few tips like “Wear your hair up to showcase the neckline ” or “For fall, pair with a chocolate or burgundy boot and a sweater” to each item, so it’s like having a styling session when you look at their website. Talk about an easy way to shop online! What a great customer experience.
So if you have an event to go to, or if you really want to add a designer piece to your wardrobe, head to 11 Honoré. Because it’s never too early to shop your outfit for the Holidays!
Shop the new runway at 11 Honoré, sizes 12 to 24.
