Designer pieces at low cost: how??

Finding designer pieces at a reasonnable price IS possible. It could be a matter of being somewhere at the right place and the right time, or it could be hard work, or a matter of research and patience, but it’s possible.

I told you a few weeks ago that Target was about to launch their 20th Collection of Designs for All – and this, my friends, was an easy way to grab designer items without skipping rent. The collection consisted in boots, bags, purses, kitchen and decor accessories and clothing for kids, men, women INCLUDING plus size women! (nothing for plus size men, but customers were furious so they might change that in the future..)

Designers like Anna Sui, Isaac Mizrahi, Zac Posen, Phillip Lim, Jason Wu, Altuzarra, Rodarte, Harajuku Kids, Hunter, Marimekko, Michael Graves, Lilly Pulitzer and more.. Yup, they all did a mini collection for the 20th Anniversary of collaboration between amazing designers and Target.

As you know, this collection was expected to sell out very quickly and it did. Target posted all the items online so we could select what we wanted to make it easier when it actually went on sale.

There was so many dresses I wanted (Anna Sui, Jason Wu, Rodarte..) and every single item of clothing for women was also available in 1X, 2X and 3X so there was temptation everywhere. My budget was really tight, so I decided on two items: the Phillip Lim shirt dress and the Altuzarra Snake print blouse.

To be sure to get my hands on EXACTLY the pieces I wanted, I had my alarm ready: 3am on Saturday September 14th. By 3:16am, some dresses were already sold out in plus size. It was crazy. But because I already figured out exactly what I wanted and because my profile on Target’s website was completed previously that week (with credit card info, shipping address and all), the transaction went quickly. By 3:30am, I was back to bed.

It took a few days for shipping, and I had to pick up my order at the Kinek counter.

So last week, I had the pleasure to wear my new designer items at work!

3.1 Phillip Lim

First, I wore the Phillip Lim shirt dress and WOW!! I had SO MANY compliments!! This dress is absolutely fabulous. There is a little stretch in the fabric, so it’s very comfortable. I thought it was a button-down dress, but I was pleasantly surprised when I realized it was a zipper. No button gap between the boobs, yeah!!

The fabric is not only comfy, it’s also gorgeous!! The mix of patterns, the fake pockets at the bust, the high-low.. I am in love with it!! I remember I hesited between the shirt dress and the blouse from the same fabric.. I’m glad I went with the dress though. This is a showstopper.

I think the only thing missing on this dress is pockets.. I like have my phone on me on the metro.

Altuzarra

A few days later, I decided to wear my Altuzarra blouse with my high waisted Eloquii pants. I felt so gorgeous dressed like that, and got loads of great comments again. I work in an office, and people are dressed accordingly. I do too, but I rarely wear something to stand out. That day, I stood tall. I went all in.

This blouse has no stretch and the fabric is a bit sheer. It’s not a bad thing, but I didn’t want to stand out too much by showing my bra at work, so I wore a tank top underneath. And the bow that you can tie at the neck adds volume and fabric to hide the fact that there are no buttons (again! yesssssss!) in front. Really guys, how could I resist this blouse? I find the snake print is a more.. polished version of the animal print, if this is a thing. Oh and yup, it’s still trending!

Add to that a bun on top of my head, a burgundy lipstick matching my nails and voilà!!

So next time Target launch a collection with a famous designer, don’t think twice!! Check what the fuss is all about and grab what makes you happy!
